My Tuesday Evening in Eastlake with the Welk Stars
Another Super Welk Concert Adventure written and photos by your webmaster
WOULD YOU BELIEVE this would make two Welk concerts in one year for the webmaster? It happened on Tuesday, November 22, 2005; two days before Thanksgiving, and I have been preparing for months. The return of the Forever Blowing Bubbles troupe and you bet you bottom dollar that I was ready. With my best suit on, my digital camera charged up and my best foot forward, I made the two and half hour trek from Toledo to Eastlake on the Ohio Turnpike, I-90 and points in between.
For those who don't know where the heck Eastlake
is, I tell you that it is a suburb of twenty thousand folks located fifteen to twenty minutes east of Cleveland over in Lake County. It's your typical community and it's claim to fame is that it is home to the Lake County Captains (note logo to your left) minor league baseball team, and by the way they are the Single A affliate of the big boys in the region, the Cleveland Indians.
But enough about baseball and Eastlake, it is the show we are here for. The concert took place at the Croatian Lodge Ballroom on Lake Shore Drive, it is a very nice venue, very classy, and according to my ticket I paid for....I get dinner at 6:30 followed by the show at 8 o'clock. They served salad, chicken and mashed potatoes and boy were they delicious! With my spare tire full, I was ready for some after dinner music....courtesy of Lawrence Welk's Musical Family!
